Khira is a senior mastiff who came up from Miama via the auspices of the Miami-Dade Rescue Railroad. She was left at the animal shelter there, and was deemed unadoptable because of her age (and a few "old dog" lumps and bumps, some arthritis/neuropathy, etc.). Our friends down there (Riddick also came from Florida, though a different shelter) let us know about her, and we agreed to take her up here if no one else would.
Well, Khira must've had a guardian angel, because she was literally at death's door--on a leash, being taken out of her run on the "final walk" by the ACO--when they arrived to get her. She was helped out additionally down there by a short-term foster home and several drivers who squeezed her in and gave her rides from Miami to Tampa to South Carolina. Despite her age (she's not learning too many new tricks), Khira is happy in her new home, where her foster family says she can stay "forever." She's quite fond of children, sofas, and biscuits. Thanks again to the folks at MDRR who made it happen for this special old girl. When you're adding a special new family member, please consider adopting a senior homeless pet. They may not have the energy of a youngster, but they still have a lot of love to give in their twilight years, and you can enrich their lives as much as they can yours! Adoption saves lives! |
